Why Statutory & Mandatory Training Matters in UK Healthcare
- Helps organisations meet legal duties and CQC expectations.
- Modules are aligned with CSTF where applicable.
- Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) requirements where applicable.
- Reduces risk around patient safety, data protection, safeguarding and workplace health and safety.
- Gives managers clear, central evidence that staff have completed required training and refreshers.
How the Statutory & Mandatory Training works
- Statutory & Mandatory modules/courses on eGP Hub are delivered online through short, focused lessons that combine clear text explanations, visuals and scenario-based examples.
- Many courses also include video content or interactive elements to bring real world situations to life and keep learning engaging for busy staff.
- To qualify for a certificate, learners complete a short assessment at the end of each module, typically made up of quiz questions or simple case-based checks of understanding.
- The assessment must be passed to receive the eGP Hub certificate, and learners can usually revisit the content and re take the quiz if they need to improve their score.

How often should
Statutory & Mandatory training be refreshed?
Statutory & Mandatory training refresher requirements come from national standards rather than a single organisation.
Most GP practices follow the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) for recognised intervals on key topics. Additional guidance includes NHS England (annual Information Governance), Resuscitation Council UK (annual BLS for clinical staff), and frameworks for infection prevention, safeguarding, and more.
CQC expects practices to use standards like CSTF and ensure ongoing staff competence, with local cycles possible based on risk and service needs.
