Practice Readiness:
Myths & Misconceptions
Practice Readiness: Myths & Misconceptions training is inspired by the Care Quality Commission’s official “mythbuster” guidance.
These courses help care teams understand what CQC really expects in key areas, clear up common misconceptions, and feel more confident preparing for inspections.

Who is it for?
- Practice managers and partners responsible for inspection preparation. Clinical leads, nurses, HCAs and pharmacists involved in medicines, long-term condition care and clinical governance.
- Reception and admin teams who handle test results, correspondence, induction packs and patient communications.
- Governance, quality-improvement and training leads across GP practices and PCNs.
Why this matters
- Helps practices align policies and day-to-day processes with relevant guidance and domains, rather than relying on hearsay.
- Reduces inspection anxiety by clarifying what is and is not required around issues such as mandatory training, recruitment checks, consent, medicines, and use of new roles like physician associates.
- Supports safer, more consistent care by tightening governance in high-risk areas such as infection control, emergency medicines and test-result handling.
How this works
- Modules are delivered online in short, focused lessons using practical examples, so managers can quickly spot gaps between current practice and CQC expectations.
- At the end of each module, learners complete a brief quiz or assessment; passing unlocks an eGP Hub certificate that can be saved.
- Teams or individuals can use modules individually or as part of a structured inspection-readiness plan.
Certificates & Proof of Training
Each “Practice Readiness: Myths & Misconceptions” module includes a downloadable eGP Hub certificate once the assessment is passed. Practices can file these certificates alongside policies, audits and meeting notes as evidence that staff have engaged with relevant CQC mythbuster guidance and understand how it applies locally.
How often should “Practice Readiness: Myths & Misconceptions” modules be refreshed?
CQC mythbuster content should be revisited whenever guidance is updated or when roles, services or inspection findings highlight a need for improvement.
Many practices build key modules (for example infection control, test-result handling, emergency medicines and induction packs) into an annual or bi-annual governance cycle, always following local policies and risk assessments.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Which Statutory & Mandatory courses do our staff need?
Training requirements depend on each staff member’s role, responsibilities and the services your practice provides. Common subjects include fire safety, infection prevention and control, safeguarding, information governance, basic life support, and health and safety. Your practice should identify the appropriate subjects, levels and refresher intervals through its training needs assessment and relevant guidance. CQC does not prescribe one fixed training list for every GP practice.
Are these modules aligned with UK frameworks?
Courses are developed with reference to relevant UK guidance and training frameworks, including the Core Skills Training Framework where applicable. Practice Readiness modules are informed by CQC guidance relevant to services in England. Employers should check each course’s learning outcomes, level and assessment against staff responsibilities and local requirements. Practical training or workplace assessment may also be needed; Care Certificate e-learning supports the knowledge component and does not replace workplace assessment and employer sign-off.
Can we see who has completed which courses?
Learners can download their completion certificates and share them with their practice manager for training records. A practice-manager dashboard is coming soon, with planned features to assign courses by role, track completion and certificate dates, and export training records to Excel.
