Each Care Certificate module includes a downloadable eGPHub certificate of completion. These certificates support appraisal and competency documentation for HCAs, but are not formal CPD accreditation. The overall programme is mapped to the Care Certificate Standards and supports, but does not replace, CQC evidence requirements for safe HCA induction.
Most learners complete the Care Certificate over 8–12 weeks, combining e-learning with supervised practice in their workplace. The Care Certificate itself does not expire, but staff must maintain ongoing competence through supervision, updates and refresher training in relevant topics (for example safeguarding or infection control) in line with local policy.
Use this form to tell us about your HCAs, support workers and induction process. The eGPHub team will recommend how to structure your Care Certificate modules alongside statutory and mandatory training, and help you plan access for new starters and existing staff.
No. eGPHub provides the knowledge component and certificates for each module, but learners must also complete workplace competency assessments signed off by a suitable assessor to be awarded the full Care Certificate.
The Care Certificate is not a statutory requirement in legislation, but it is widely expected by CQC and is considered best practice for all new HCAs and support workers. Many GP practices treat it as mandatory locally for new HCA appointments.
Yes. When combined with documented workplace assessment and supervision, this Care Certificate pathway aligns with CQC expectations for safe HCA induction and supports several CQC Key Lines of Enquiry, especially Safe, Effective, Caring and Well-Led.
